In this two hour class, we’ll explore one method of creating and building challenge and intensity in a scene, as we crank up the heat for our partners.

We’ll cover safety considerations, pacing, and best options for a successful outcome. We’ll also explore opportunities for adding on in poses that need a little extra something something, as well as emergency out pathways should the need to quickly return to earth arise.

Riggers should be comfortable working in suspension, have a safe and suspension-stable upper and lower body tie they know with certainty works for their partner, and confidence working under time pressure.

Models should be extremely familiar with their body, be confident expressing needs, and be nerve injury aware. They should also have a good sense of which positions are rest positions and which positions are stress positions for their body.

Level: 401 - advanced, moderately challenging suspension.

Rope bondage offers many sensations, and pain can be a wonderful one of them. In this workshop we’ll begin to explore intense sensation, and discuss practical ways to introduce challenging elements to our scenes. Tickets available via BirdhausTO.com!

From embracing the pleasure in a painful stretch, to the joys of working with skin sensation and pressure, you’ll learn everything you need to know to safely begin to take your bondage to the dark side.

Riggers will need a working knowledge of bondage basics including a single column tie and a half hitch. You’ll also as need at least 4 pieces of rope 20-30 feet long each (natural fibre highly recommended).

Models will need good communication skills, and a desire to explore intense sensations!

This class is self tie friendly.

Level: 101 - beginner friendly, no pre-requisites

Join us for Suspended Harmony, an evening of shibari and music that will delight your senses and push the boundaries of the ordinary. This months theme is “In Bloom”, and our performers will be harmonizing their floral rope to the accompaniment of a live pianist! Tickets available through our website BirdhausTO.com

This harmony of shibari artistry and music will take you on a journey of sincere human connectivity and real-time creativity, as the two disciplines collaborate and play in concert.

After the performances, the space will open to Toronto’s shibari community for a rope jam, with the usual Birdhaus array of suspension points available. Energetic beats and great drinks will continue to flow throughout the night and everyone is welcome to stay.

Shibari is a Japanese art form with a complex history stretching back hundreds of years. In a beautiful display of trust and vulnerability a rope artist works with a model, often suspending them in mid-air, blending rope techniques and the human body’s natural landscape to create a range of stunning poses.

Exploding ties are among the most exciting, dangerous, and temperamental ties…

This class we’ll explore different construct methods for exploding ties, including some ways to make them more foolproof.

Since exploding ties present higher risks, we will discuss when exploding or quick-release ties are a safety feature that minimize risk, and how to minimize risks when used in more dangerous applications.

We’ll then combine some of these principles into harnesses, including Guignonette’s exploding TK.

Guignonette explores physical self-expression and sexuality with theatrical flair. His innovative ties creatively merge intention, spontaneity, and novelty.
Incorporating the aesthetic principles of ikebana and bonsai, Guignonette challenges gravity through balance, tipping points, and leverage.

Guignonette currently studies and teaches at Tension Montreal and gives private lessons and ties.

Bamboo is a wonderful tool that adds structure, leverage, and connection. It becomes its own anchor point, opening up more possibilities and creating some restrictions — for both the person tying and person getting tied.

In this workshop we will look at working with bamboo to create interesting shapes and add a new dimension to floor ties that can also be applied to partial and full suspensions.

Many of the skills that we will learn and apply to bamboo are transferable to furniture and other objects.

There is no pressure to suspend in this class, all techniques can be done on the floor. Those expecting to suspend in this class must already have a strong familiarity with uplines and standard lock-offs.

Suspended Harmony will run as scheduled

So you want to make your own smut, but havent filmed yourself or your sexy partners in a while? Want to learn how to find the right angle and light? Well we have a workshop for you… All you need to bring is your phone and your enthusiasm! Tickets for both the workshop and the open space available through the linktree in our bio!

The evening will kick off with a 1h workshop with @null_ft for those new to self shooting. We will be going through the tips and tricks of recording yourself on your phone, using whatever lighting you might have at hand, and of course… pointing your toes! :)

After the class we’ll have dedicated areas of the beautifully appointed Birdhaus studios ready to go for self shooting content, including for those who don’t wish to participate in the workshop. Please be aware that while we will do our best to create distinct shooting “zones”, complete quiet on set will not be possible as this will be a shared space.

We will also have an area for those looking to socialize and meet new partners for content creation, or for finding folks to team up with for BYOP (our upcoming in-Haus smut festival)!

Rae Szereszewski is a certified sexual health educator and relationship coach. She aims to empower people to make authentic and informed choices in both their relationships and their sex lives.

Rae has taught workshops for multiple universities across Canada, fraternities and sororities across Ontario, staff trainings at camps across Ontario, at sexual assault crisis centers, private groups, and more.

Her coaching practice primarily focuses on helping ethically/consensually non monogamous individuals navigate their relationships.

Her past lives included making body positive custom latex clothing, and creating sex positive events at a swingers and lifestyle club.

So often the moment we run suspension lines the play stops and the engineering begins. In this 2h intermediate class we’ll cover methods to make the tying, running, and finishing of suspension lines as fun and engaging as our floor rope. Tickets available through the link in our bio!

We’ll learn methods of building psychological tension as we move into the sky, ways of burning ends to enhance sensations, and ideas for moving suspension lines into orientations that delight and surprise.

Previous classes on securing suspension lines a benefit, but not required.

Sustainable suspension worthy harnesses for the upper and lower body, confidence with half hitches, munter hitches and yuki knots.

No suspension experience required, but confidence advocating for needs in rope necessary.

No matter how small the component, no matter how simple the tie, what makes rope feel great is our ability to communicate our intention. In this 1.5 hour beginner friendly class we’ll cover techniques for making every moment in your tying feel expressive. Tickets available through the link in our bio!

We’ll cover essential tools for turning the “boring” bits of tying into moments of intimacy and control, ways of pacing and managing a scene to help our partner feel engaged, and methods of injecting a feeling or mood into our technique.

We’ll kick things off with target practice for the first 90 minutes, and for the complete beginners a lesson on how to throw a whip. We do recommend bringing ear and eye protection, as we expect quite a few tails to be flying!

If your intention is to practice on something other than an artificial target please remember you’ll need to find someone to work with before the class.

For those intending to *be* the target, please remember all single tail play comes with the risk of marking.

Exploring suspension-worthy structures, building adaptable anchors and apexes, and refining top and bottom flow states to explore working more playfully throughout a session.

Addressing common pitfalls, recognizing dangers before and during loading, and—critically—answering, “Why the hell do so many Tension students climb on their partners?”

This workshop is designed for those looking to deepen their technical skills, enhance their connection, and refine their movement in rope.

Level: 300-400 level, pre-reqs functional chest harness (does not need to be a TK), confidence with suspension lines.

The excellent @willcatropes and @bruise.cruise will be joining us all the way from Montreal for a weekend deep dive into modern Shibari. Day One is fully dedicated to beginner friendly material, although this class is a valuable breakdown of the components of Shibari for practitioners at all skill levels. Pattern-Building workshop (3-4H): A beginner-friendly but technically rich class that focuses on breaking down familiar yet complex frictions to understand why patterns work, rather than just following along.
The perfect course to contextualize and learn beyond WIllcat’s Fundamentals. Their tying partner of 5 years FOX will be assisting and modeling throughout the weekend and will readily impart bottoming experience and knowledge.
We will review a TK and why / how it works but then break it down into bite sized components and build other structures from those tools adapted to our models.

This class is truly the ultimate starting point for anyone looking to explore Shibari, or the perfect deep dive into the basics for those already tying but intrigued by their unique style and approach. In this three hour class we take every student from knowing nothing about Shibari to having basic knowledge, and the ability to play and enjoy rope. After just one class, the students will know enough to tie basic patterns and explore Shibari on their own.

This class is geared as a precursor to any of your rope journeys; ideal for newbies and those curious about bondage. Whether alone or with a partner, this class is for you. Fun, engaging & instructional this class will bring you the knowledge you need to start practicing your basic frictions, knowledge on emotional safety and the ability to more safely apply rope to yourself or a partner.

We will be screening 2-3 Hentai of various flavours, each with a pre-film discussion/presentation of key film elements, the era that generated it, as well as discussion around any problematic elements of the content.

Birdhaus

The Space

Birdhaus launched in the Entertainment District’s notorious 263 Adelaide St W shortly followed by a move to a larger historic space in Liberty Village. An expansion to a larger space just off Queen St came in 2024 along with expanded content, a cocktail program and so much more. With a 100 year storied history, the venue has been transformed into an intimate space for the city’s avant-garde.
