About The Event

In this class, we will be exploring the evolution of Shibari over the course of the 20th and early 21st centuries, primarily as a gateway for understanding the aesthetic properties of major styles taught today and the origins of many modern techniques.
Specific topics will include:
Pre-Akechi Shibari history from Seiu Ito forward
Foundational photographers: Norio Segiura and Nobuyoshi ArakiImpact of Akechi Denki, His students and contemporaries
Stylistic Hallmarks of Kazami Ranki, Hajime Kinoko (and the Ichinawakai), Kanna, Yagami Ren, Akira Naka, Arisue Go, Saki Kamijoo, Kasumi Hourai, Yoi Yoshida, and Yukimura Haruki (with short tying exercises)
